This course examines the major changes that shaped the modern world in the twentieth century. You will study Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia through major events such as the two world wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, decolonization, nationalism, modernization, globalization, and recent global conflicts. You will also consider major questions about economic development, democracy, and peace. By connecting these case studies to wider global themes, you will gain a clear understanding of how revolution, war, empire, and resistance shaped the twentieth century and continue to influence the world today.
