🎶 Welcome to FNAM 101 – Applied Voice! 🎶

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our Applied Voice course! Whether you're stepping into a voice studio for the first time or simply looking to sing with more confidence and joy, I’m truly excited to work with you this semester.

In this course, you’ll begin building a strong foundation in vocal technique, with a focus on healthy breath control, vocal production, and expressive performance. Because your voice is your instrument—one shaped by your body, mind, and even your sleep and nutrition—learning to sing is as much about caring for yourself as it is about music-making.

We'll explore beautiful classical Italian art songs, where Western vocal training began, and you'll also have the chance to choose and perform a song that speaks to you personally—be it gospel, musical theatre, pop, hip-hop, or sacred music. Our semester will conclude with a live recital, where you'll share both your classical piece and your chosen genre with an audience.

Don’t worry if you can’t read music yet! That won’t hold you back in this class. We'll gradually introduce basic music reading skills along the way to support your learning.

Most importantly, I hope this class becomes a space where you feel free to discover your unique voice, challenge yourself, and find joy in every note you sing.

Looking forward to a meaningful and musical semester together!

Warmly,
Professor Kim
