In this course, we will explore the theme of “Justice.” All Trinity students take this required course, which is designed to develop your critical reading and academic writing skills. Your ability to comprehend and write about the arguments in academic texts will be essential for your learning and success in all of your liberal arts courses. You will develop your ability to identify a text’s main argument and the evidence used to support that argument. You will also develop your ability to reflect your comprehension by accurately and clearly paraphrasing and summarizing a text’s argument. You will learn how to analyze an author or speaker’s rhetoric. Your final paper will require you to create an argument and incorporate appropriate support for that argument. Ultimately, the lessons you learn here will serve you on your educational journey in any major and give you the confidence to read and engage academic texts in a variety of disciplines.
