Course Description:
Presents an overview of multicultural issues in social work, with an emphasis on cultural competence. This course focuses on the increasing need of cultural and ethnic diversity in social work practice with the changing United States population. The politics of social work is also examined, with attention to historical oppression and issues of social justice. Utilizes case studies, assessment planning and intervention with diverse clients.
Course Objectives:
1. The student will explain and apply issues of multicultural social work practice.
2. The student understands cultural and ethnic diversity in social work practice.
3. The student understands the politics of social work practice, and
4. The student will critically analyze the historical framework of oppression and social justice in social work practice.
