As everything today is visually based, learning how to make better images is a necessity and photography skills are essential in media professions. This class is designed for you to gain valuable visual skills that you can use to enhance your journalistic storytelling and in a media career. Learning to be a better photographer will benefit you in many ways.
We explore the photographic process, emphasizing creative aspects, composition, and digital technologies. Students will use their digital smartphones to take photos and will learn how to use professional-grade DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras owned by the university.
We will explore how to best illustrate news and feature articles and best practices in photojournalism, including ethics.
There will be lecture each week, in-class assignments and activities. Outside of class activities may include an online component,readings, gallery visits and using your camera, having your images published in Trinity Times and on Flickr (students create an account for Flickr for this class).
