In this course, we will explore the theme of “Discovering Your Strength.” All Trinity students take this required course, which is designed to develop your critical reading and academic writing skills. Your ability to comprehend and write about the arguments in academic texts will be essential for your learning and success in all of your liberal arts courses. You will develop your ability to identify a text’s main argument and the evidence used to support that argument. You will also develop your ability to reflect your comprehension by accurately and clearly paraphrasing and summarizing a text’s argument. In this course, you will practice the skill of responding to texts with your own ideas. Ultimately, the lessons you learn here will serve you on your educational journey in any major and give you the confidence to read and engage academic texts in a variety of disciplines.
