Course Description: This course explores the global transformation processes that have shaped world history in the 20th century. It covers Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. It delves into topics such as the two World Wars, the Global Depression, the Cold War, the collapse of the Western-dominated imperial order, the rise of nationalism, the effects of modernization and globalization, contemporary global conflicts, and prospects for economic development, democratization, and peacebuilding.

The course also focuses on six revolutionary movements of the 20th century, including Revolutionary Mexico, the Chinese Revolution, the Russian Revolution, Gandhi's campaign for Indian Independence, Castro's Cuban Revolution, and the South African Anti-Apartheid Movement. It examines their profound impacts on global dynamics and how they served as both products of and catalysts for more comprehensive global transformations.

By intersecting these detailed case studies with overarching themes such as the World Wars and the Global Depression, students will understand how these upheavals influenced broader geopolitical, economic, and social shifts, setting the stage for the modern world.
