The goal of this course is to provide exposure to and experience in the use of expressive arts within a counseling setting.  This course will discuss the background, history, and selected theoretical orientations of expressive arts with an emphasis on client-centered and culturally responsive interventions.  This course examines the role of creativity, the creative process, and multimodal arts therapy.  Students will be introduced to the study and practice of working with imagery, music, movement and dance, poetry, drama, the visual arts, journaling, and narrative therapy as dimensions of the therapeutic process.  This course will discuss the use of expressive arts use with children, adolescents, and adults who may have difficulty in verbalizing in traditional "talk" therapy.
