Welcome to EDCC 207!

My name is Renetta Davis-Armstrong and I will serve as your facilitator for the Summer 2020 term. I love teaching this course, the content is easy to understand while it challenges us to be more intentional in creating experiences for young children. The course objectives are as follows:

Course Description: This course examines the historical, theoretical, and developmental foundations for learning in young children, birth to age 8 (specifically, pre-K to 3rd grade).  Students learn how to create developmentally and individually appropriate lesson and activity plans. Learning experiences integrate the various content areas of literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts, and incorporate the social-emotional, cognitive and physical domains of child development.

Course Objectives:

1.  Plan, implement, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate integrated approach across curriculum areas based on early learning standards

2.  Select culturally, linguistically, and ability responsive materials that have multiple purposes, are adaptable and varied, and promote learning, including learning about diverse cultures and shared humanity.

3.  Construct learning environments that support healthy, developmentally appropriate, and positive behavioral and learning expectations.

Instructor Quote: Reflective practice is “a dialogue of thinking and doing through which [we] I become more skillful.”  Schön, D.A. (1983). The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action. New York: Basic Books Inc.
